The History
Andrea Dalton Dance Dynamics commenced on the Sunshine Coast in 1981 as Andrea Dalton School of Dance under the directorship of Principal Andrea Dalton. As a school teacher at Mooloolaba State School in 1979, Andrea spent 12 months abroad in 1980 and returned to establish the dance school and continue her school teaching contracts in the local area.

Starting with around 50 students, the school has now grown to be a large establishment committed to the teaching of dance to both the recreational and vocational dancer.

The initial school worked out of the Mooloolaba Squash and Fitness centre and moved into a local church hall before commencing work out of a larger studio in Kayleigh Drive Maroochydore. After substantial growth of the student body, the school was relocated to its present premises at 127 Sugar Rd Maroochydore in 1993. Branches were then offered at both Caloundra and Bribie Island and were held there for many years.

Various teachers have been enlisted over the years to work with the students at Dance Dynamics but the full time teaching has been undertaken by Andrea herself for the past 29 years. Heidi Dalton, Andrea’s daughter became a full time teacher at the school whilst studying for her university degree and still takes on a large load of the teaching as well as maintaining her full time secondary school teaching position. Heidi brings with her a young enthusiasm to all classes in each genre of tap, ballet and jazz and progressive ideas in choreography as well as the embracing of new forms of dance such as hip hop.

In the early 80’s, a dance wear shop was added to the school and still operates today as Danceways Dancewear which gives personal service to all our clients.

Students at Dance Dynamics have had opportunities for international travel and performance with the Australia –Japan Dance Spectacular Tour in 1997 and the Hong Kong Dance Expo tour with ATOD Ltd in 2000. In September, 2006, 13 dancers from Dance Dynamics toured Hong Kong and danced as members of the Qld ATOD team at the prestigious Hong Kong Cultural Centre as guests of the Vivian Kwok School of Ballet.

The Teaching Learning Environment
It is the philosophy of Dance Dynamics that students will learn most successfully in a positive environment Strategies will therefore be in place to allow for this to occur by use of the following techniques:

  • Safe warm up practice and student understanding of this process.
  • Employment of a variety of teaching styles to cater for the individual learner: verbally -through speaking, visually -through looking and kinesthetically- through feeling the manipulation of the body
  • Teachers striving to maintain positive, yet realistic expectations of the student’s ability. through support and encouragement
  • Opportunities for revision and practice will be given to all students
  • Listing disciplinary boundaries applicable to a variety of age groups to allow for effective learning and safe dance practice.
  • Encouraging the students to be responsible for their own learning (via goal setting, problem solving, choreographic tasks, and dance improvisation activities), grooming and organization of costumes and dancewear.
Feedback will be given in a positive manner with a purpose of developing within the student the idea that errors are ‘ok’ and are part of the learning process
